The Saltee Islands are situated 4 miles off Kilmore Quay in Co Wexford. This trip is designed to help the recreational sea kayaker get better acquainted with the ocean and all it has to offer. The pace of the paddle is relaxed so that even the relatively inexperienced paddler can enjoy a full day on the water.
As with all our trips, the visit to the Saltee Islands begins at 10am with a brief chat with one of our guides to establish the itinerary for the day and a recap for those paddling on the importance of staying safe on the water.
The trip takes in both of the Saltee Islands and, as the Great Saltee affords unique opportunities for both bird and wildlife watching, we not only paddle around it but stop there for lunch! The Great Saltee is a place of stunning natural beauty and a haven for bird and marine life. As well as the beautiful deserted inlets decorated with starfish, sea anemones and sea urchins the island is home to a grey seal colony and spectacular gannet and puffin colonies. As the day advances, we pick up paddles again and return to Kilmore Quay, arriving back there at approximately 5p.m. This trip to the Saltee Islands is a unique opportunity to discover one of the most stunning hidden treasures of the Wexford coastline.
